YVETTE WALKER FOR UPLAND CITY COUNCIL - DISTRICT 2
Watch the video below to hear about some of the policies and initiatives that I would love to bring to Upland. This was such a fun and lively interview and we had a great time discussing the future of our amazing City!

I am proud to call Upland “Home”. It is where my husband and I raise our family and value all the amazing things Upland has to offer. I majored in communications and own a marketing and public relations company, spent over 20 years as a volunteer to promote health and educational programs, I have served as the Chairwoman for the Community Development Block Grant Committee (2012-2016), and currently serve as a Planning Commissioner. I have 20 years background in successful business, 7 of which were dedicated to working alongside my husband to build his thriving professional, product and general liability defense law firm.
I would like to see Upland become the innovative incubator of the IE and take advantage of tax base benefits of being in San Bernardino County versus LA county. With proximity to world renown universities, access to major arterial highways, freeways, international airport, affordable land, and proximity to recreational opportunities, Upland is perfectly positioned to be a model for economic advancement, innovation and growth. We can do this by branding our community as such and actively reaching out to students and small business owners looking for a business friendly location to launch and grow. As a city, we must compete for viable economic opportunities to expand our revenue.
I want to focus on ways to be more efficient with our operating budget and look for opportunities to cut costs by looking at implementing collaborative purchasing, create a more competitive bidding process for City contracts, and creating a volunteer based committee aimed at developing an Upland Strategic Plan and pursue tens of millions of dollars in grants to benefit our community.
I want to focus on safety in our communities.
Unfortunately, State laws including the Realignment Act, also known as AB 109 as well as Prop 47 have created a challenging landscape for our Police as criminal activity has been downgraded from offenses that were once felonies to misdemeanors. Our law enforcement officers are now faced with an overwhelming routine of catch and release in a revolving door system that places our communities at risk. Now more than ever, it is important that we support our police department. I want to make it easier for our Upland Police Department to serve and protect, not harder. I want to ensure that Upland has the proper number of officers, with competitive wages and benefits, on duty, per capita, as some of our neighboring cities that have been recognized as one of the safest cities to live.
Your vote for me will be a vote to support Solutions, Family and Safety!
